John F. Kennedy Space Center

Day 3 and Day 4,

We decided to take a relaxed start to the morning of day 3, filled with some swimming in the bright blue pool surrounded by music and a palm tree's by the beach bar. We played some basketball in the evening with some american guys which was great fun! We also made some homemade egg and steak rolls when we got home. I think it is one of 2 non-fast food meals we have had since we got here!

On Day 4, we rose early to head off to the John F. Kennedy Space Center (NASA). The drive was about 95km from where we are currently staying. We arrived about and hour or so after we left. Upon walking into the center you are brought right underneath towering space rockets that were used to get into space in the early days of space travel. There was also the platform on which Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins and Neil Armstrong walked along on there flight to the moon, along with the pod that they took off in and landed back on earth. It was quiet something walking in the exact footsteps of such history!

We proceeded to go into the main space center building which started out as an in depth historical film of the progression of the 'Shuttle'. Once the film came to an end the screen lifted up and behind it was the Atlantis Space Shuttle! Not a model or replica... It was the actually Atlantis Space Shuttle. What an amazing sight! This Shuttle went on 33 successful space missions to the ISS (International Space Station).

Prior to the Atlantis was the Discovery, Endeavour, Columbia ( Disintegrated on re-entry to Earth 16th June 2003), Challenger (Exploded on launch 28th January 1986) and the Enterprise ( The very first Shuttle)

In and around the center were boards of information and bits and pieces demonstrating the different parts and operation of the intricate space shuttle. Some of these displays were interactive and some just reading information. There was also a display of the engines used on the space shuttle. Fun fact of the day: There is 37 Million Horsepower in one of 3 engines used. (the standard Bugatti Veyron has 987 horsepower) Crazy!

We ended the day with some Angry Birds games. including an awesome lazer room that you had to complete 4 levels, Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert with the lowest time possible. Good fun!
